About Art Work

In this figurative work, Mehdi Vishkaei is using brushstrokes and fluid colors in depiction of a subject that more than having a physical nature, is haunting the memory of a seductive woman who can appear and disappear momentarily.

The most notable works of Vishkaei include portraits of eminent Iranian and international figures. In his application of paint, Vishkaei achieved a personal expression and gained a unique brushstroke technique. Thus in a majority of portraits he created, certain trace of an excited brushstroke is visible. His nimble brushstroke illustrates early Iranian modern painting in the best way. Further, application of intense colors as well as nimble, seductive and scattered brushstrokes conveys a kind of powerful visual tweak to spectators. As this painting indicates, Vishkaei’s works rarely focus on details or regular arrangement of colors. In fact, a combination of these qualities produces the phenomenal harmony of color surfaces in his familiar compositions. Vishkaei is considered one of the first modern artists of Iran who, at the threshold of Iranian Modernism, made use of exaggerated qualities of color in a bold, avant-garde way.
