Shahryar Ahmadi depicts a totally Iranian space in his work that is well connected to the world of contemporary art. In his exploration of history and styles, Ahmadi has been able to forge a smart connection between Iranian mystic literature, indigenous Persian painting and artistic language of Abstract Expressionism, producing a style that perhaps demonstrates the artist’s personal perspective on the history of his homeland.
Making use of this style and technique in the present painting through a fluid composition of forms and intersecting lines of color and surface, Ahmadi is producing an artwork that while visualizes familiar surroundings, it portrays a fanciful world; a world that its bright blue background makes it appear suspended in the air.
Numerous layers of color with a spectrum of bright crème, gold, yellow, green, red and blue along with diverse textures juxtaposed with elements of calligraphy, produce a work that makes imagination stroll across the ruptured identity of figures; figures that advance to the off limits of abstraction and turn the entire work into an expressionist account.
Shahryar Ahmadi uses unconventional forms of canvas that are consistent with Persian manuscripts to create works that have allusive references to the ancient Persian literature. In modern life, that certitude of an eternal mental discipline is absent and the canvas clearly indicates this metamorphosis.
Application of paint and different layers that produce a certain texture present a universe in which everything is about to annihilate, on the one hand, and expresses hope for renewed consistency, in the presence of transparent colors, on the other.
